Consultation

ENHANCE YOUR PROCESS & GET CONSULTATION

INITIAL STEP:

To begin, schedule a consultation meeting at your convenience with SEE GTF Carly Brynelson (seegtf@uoregon.edu). It is helpful (but not necessary) to collect examples of the documents that you currently have related to student employment prior to the consultation. They could include all or just one of the following:

  • position description
  • recruitment plan
  • application form
  • interview questions
  • hiring criteria or rubric
  • orientation checklist
  • training schedule or checklist
  • performance review form

Carly will help you connect your existing practices to immediately actionable SEE goals, connect you to the SEE community of supervisor peers, and help you find available trainings that align with your goals as a supervisor and mentor to students.

TRAINING:

Attend a Leadership in Student Supervision training or other SEE training (offered collaboratively between HR and SEE).  Please visit http://odt.uoregon.edu/registration/course_list.php to view options and register. Note that Leadership in Student Supervision is the ‘Foundational Course’ in the series offered.

S.E.E. ESSENTIALS CHECKLIST:

Please complete each of the “essentials” action items.

S.E.E. ENHANCEMENTS CHECKLIST:

Consider each of the items “enhancements” action items. While we recommend them, not every item will work for every department. Decide what works for you and be creative! Let us know if we can support you in brainstorming, problem solving, or implementation. We encourage you to incorporate additional enhancements tailored to your own work environment. If you do, we would love to add the enhancements you are incorporating (that are not listed here) into the checklist! This will allow us to share best practices among supervisors. Please share your enhancements with uosee@uoregon.edu.

FINAL STEP:

To conclude, submit your updated documents related to student employment. These should have the essentials and the enhancements you chose incorporated in them.  These include:

  • position description
  • recruitment plan (if written)
  • application form
  • interview questions
  • hiring criteria or rubric
  • orientation checklist
  • training schedule or checklist
  • performance review form
  • any other documents you have developed

Please indicate which of the documents you would like to share on the SEE website as resources for other supervisors. Please arrange a final meeting with your SEE Mentor or the SEE GTF to give feedback on this process.

Thank you for your participation in Student Employment Enhancement!
